Laugh At Yourself

"You grow up the day you have your first real laugh--at yourself. "

-Ethel Barrymore

"Ha! Did you see what John did? I can't believe..."

You hear it every day, all the time. It seems everyone is keeping an eye on the next person, ready to criticize or laugh at their next plunder.

Why?

Does it make us a better person? Does it help them at all? Does it in any way improve the world we live in?

Absolutely not!

This type of "criticism" is a feeble attempt to make us feel better about ourselves by drawing attention to the weeknesses and mistakes of others.

It is a sign of weekness, not of strength.

True criticism is intended to HELP the other person. Not to draw attention to their faults, but to help them OVERCOME them.

What about you? Are you perfect? Are there things that could use a little improvement?

The first step toward self-improvement is shifting your attention away from the actions of others, and onto yourself.

Be more critical of yourself, in a positive way. When you make a mistake, laugh about it.

But more importantly, look at how to improve yourself, what to do differently, to avoid making the same mistake again.

When you can do this, you will be more successful in every part of your life!

Persue Your Dreams!

"All of our dreams can come true - if we have the courage to pursue them."
- Walt Disney"

But I'm scared!" That's how I feel about this whole "blog" thing. (And some other things, as well!)

I'm afraid I might sound stupid. I'm afraid of what people might think. I'm afraid you might not like my picture. (But I will be putting a photo up, anyway, as soon as I can.)

What about you? What do you fear? Is it holding you back?

Guess what? Fear is normal. But it doesn't need to prevent you from achieving your dreams!

Courage doesn't mean "not being afraid." Courage means "taking action in spite of your fears."

And you can get courage from your dreams.

Don't be afraid to dream, and dream big! Visualize how your life will be when you achieve your dreams. Feel it deep inside.

Set a long range goal. Set intermediate goals, stepping stones along the way. Develop a plan to reach each goal, step by step. Then put the plan in motion, one step at a time!

Stay focussed on just the step at hand. When you feel fear, or maybe you just don't "feel like doing doing this step," take a look at your dream.

Isn't it worth it?

If not, maybe you need a bigger dream!
